Andrew Kershaw – Operations Director

Andy’s route into Health and Social Care maybe a little different to most.

Andy joined the Royal Engineers in 1992 and had a successful 22-year HM Armed Forces career, with professional development in Leadership and Management and Coaching and Mentoring, that enabled promotions, honours, and awards.

As a Senior Non-Commission Officer, Andy held several appointments, including Head Liaison Officer for a Multi-National Welfare Team for soldiers injured in Afghanistan, and served worldwide on postings and tours in Germany, Kenya, Canada, Afghanistan, Bosnia, and UK. Notably, leading Operations and Logistics at London Excel Centre (London 2012 Olympics).

The Chief Royal Engineer awarded Andy the highest Royal Engineer Commendation for “Exceptional service to Injured soldiers and families”. Whilst in 2006, the then Secretary of State for Defence, Des Browne, presented Andy with the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

For six years Andy was a Military Instructor, Coaching and Mentoring young people through their transition from civilian to military life. Nurturing and empowering them through the toughest period of their life, that saw them mentally and physically tested.

Andy is a plausible leader and senior manager in care, progressing through Support Worker, Senior, Team Leader, Deputy Manager, Care Quality Commission Registered Manager and Operations Manager roles. Managing Residential homes (16-25 age range) for Autistic people that may have Learning Disabilities and may present with Behaviour that Challenges. He Also registered and commissioned a residential home (16-25 age range) for Young People with Attachment and Personality Disorders, that may have historic Abuse and Trauma.

He is experienced in the planning, commissioning, and managing of residential services, and the turnaround of failing Supported Living, Domiciliary and Residential services.

Managing a 29-bed rehabilitation centre for individuals with Acquired Brain Injuries – Andy has also led a large diverse clinal team, comprising of Clinical Psychologists and assistants, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Speech and Language Therapists.
