Community Hub

The community hub is in the Gorton area of Manchester. This building is our main hub for staff and residents, with the head office for training, meetings, and paperwork completion upstairs and community centre activities downstairs. As an organisation, Next Steps recognises the importance of social inclusion, structured activities, socialisation and giving residents the opportunity to have new experiences and make memories. For this reason, the community centre was set up, to offer fun inclusive activities to every resident residing in a Next Steps home. The community centre runs activities on Wednesdays and Fridays. Wednesday activities are usually trips out into the community, these are varied and can range from the cinema or a museum to Alton towers or Blackpool. Friday activities are usually in house activities which take place at the community centre. Our community centre has a gym, TV, darts board, pool and table tennis table, board games, bingo, and arts and crafts supplies for residents to use, alongside structured activities such as designing your own t-shirt or celebrating Chinese New Year. During the summer months, we will go out some Fridays to go to local parks, do outdoor activities, have a walk and a picnic or barbecue.

This is not a CQC registered service.

The Main Goals of the Community Centre are:

  • Social inclusion Enabling socialisation and reducing isolation. Sadly, many people who have the illnesses our residents experience suffer social isolation, and this limits their abilities. The community centre supports residents to get involved in community activities that may not otherwise be accessible to them, and enables them to have new experiences which makes their life meaningful and more enjoyable.
  • Social skills Allows residents to maintain their social skills and build friendships and interactions with staff and peers from other homes.
  • Social support Social support is identified within the organisation’s care planning and the community centre offers a facility to ensure that social support is an important and inclusive part of every resident’s week alongside regular daily activities in the local community. The community centre offers an extension of social support that is expected to happen daily, where they travel, see new things, and engage in activities they would not ordinarily do on a day-to-day basis.
  • To try and improve the independence and quality of life of all residents under Next Steps care!
